Clinical Hypnosis can Improve The Quality Of Life For People Living With Dementia

People are now living longer due to more exercise, better quality food and better medical care. As a result of living much loner many more people are now being diagnosed with Dementia and Alzeimers disease.

There are over 800,000 people in th e UK with a diagnosis of Dementia, and 5.4 million in the USA with a diagnosis of Alzeimers desease.

There are over 100 different types of and sub types of Dementia but it is the primary Dementias they are of the great concern as there are currently no cures.

The most common types are dementia is Dementia of the Alzeimers type (DAT) this is followed by Vascular Dementia (VAD). It seems to be relatively common to have both types, this is referred to as Mixed Dementia. The third most common type is Dementia with lewiy Bodies (LDT).

While there is no cuurent cure for Dementia, there are many things we can do to help reduce the rick of developing Dementia and there are some Psycho-Social stratagies that can be used to enhance the quality of life for people living with Dementia and for their loved ones.

In recent studies carried out at Liverpool University by Dr Duff and DR DanNightingal, it was found that Hypnotherapy can slow down the impact of Dementia and also improve the quality of life for those living with Dementia.

The studies foud that people living with Dementia who recieved Hypnotherapy showed an improvement in many areas, concerntration, motivation, socialising, memory, daily living and relaxation also improved.

There are seven key areas where Hypnotherapy was found to positively enhance, when having regular weekly sessions.

1) Concentration

2) Relaxation

3) Socialising

4) Motivation

5) Immediate Memory

6) Memory of Significant Events

7) Activities of Daily Living

By improving in these areas quality of life is also improved while associated symptoms such as anxiety and feeling  of agitation are decreased.

The studies showed that over a period of nine months of weekly hypnotherapy sessions it became clear that participants attending the Hypnotherapy sessions showed a real improvement over all areas that where look at. Further research conducted a year later to measure the longevity showed that in all cases the effects were still present and in some cases had continued to improve without any further therapeutic intervention.

While there is still more work to be done Hypnotherapy does help people improve.

                               HYPNO-CHEMO

                                          Complementary Cancer Care

Hypno-chemo offers the cancer sufferer a legitimate, and professional and caring complemetary therapy designed to encourage a "POSITIVE EXPECTANCY" at every stage of their illness.

The aim of Hypno-Chemo is to offer the cancer sufferer a legitimate and caring service, aimed at complimenting the already established treatments from the Consultants, the Doctors and other organisations they may already be involved with.

Hypno-Chemo works by reducing the clients fears and anxiety using hypnotherapy and positive visualisation.

The Hypno-Chemo course can show you how stress in the immume system from both long term and short term stress and a series of recent major traumas can lower the immune systems effectiveness, allowing disease to manifest itself. So restoring the Psychology to a positive mindset can aid the sufferers immune system and having a positive effect on their recovery.

Beating illness by participating in recovery not failure, and this is an all encompassing assault including not only mindset, but diet and exercise, to allow the client to produce the best possible enviroment they can, align that with the modern medicine we are offering the client a full pronged approach to dealing with illnes.

The Hypno-Chemo Treatment is divided into separate modules.

Module 1 - The Vent

Dealing with emotional distress following your diagnosis.

Module 1b - The Carer

The carers opportunity to offload their emotions and understanding how to best manage themselves and the sufferer.

Module 2 - Moving Forward

Building a winning team, taking control and understanding your objectives.

Module 3 - Positivity Rules

Building that positive mindset. Understanding the patient's role in medical treatments and pain relief.

Module 4 - Reinforcement and surveillance.

Once you are on the mend you will want to reinforce and maintain that recovery.

Module 5 - Reoccurrance

Accessing and dealing with reoccurrance.

Module 6 - Death and Acceptance.

It comes to us all at some point; you can dwell on it or focus on going out in style.

Modern Medicine

Modern medicine is the best it has ever been. Modern screening, diagnosis and treatment are a major part of our fight.

Immune System

Your immune system is a vital part of your fight against cancer. Stress can reduce the effectiveness of this system . Just consider now when we get most colds, flu and sore throats, when we are run down and stressed! Understanding and getting your immune system functioning to the best of its ability is a vital part of this process.

Positive Mindset

just as a negative mindset focuses on the worst of experiences or outcome, a positive mindset allows us to focus on positive outcomes, positive experiences, empowers us to reach our goals. A positive mindset can improve pain relief, allow optimism and build inner strenght and exceptance.

The Hypno-Chemo Programme is all about building positivity.

HOW CAN HYPNOTHERAPY HELP WITH THE PROCESS OF GRIEVING

  • Have you lost someone close to you ?
  • Do you feel unable to move on ?
  • Do you have constant feeling of loneliness, hurt, or sadness ?
  • Do you have feelings of guilt, anger, anxiety ?
  • Do you have feelings of regret for words left unspoken ?

Grief is the normal feeling we experience in reaction to a loss and usually refers to the loss of a loved one, through death. Grief is quite common. Seventy five percent of women outlive their spouse. The average age of becomming a widow is in the middle to late fifties.

The pain we and suffering is the price we have to pay for loving someone.

Bereavement is the state of having experienced loss, it is something we all have to go through at sometime during our life. It can make us feel as though a large part of our life has been taken away.

Losing someone or some thing important to us can change our life

The death of a loved one is a very difficult time it affects us all at some time.

While we are going through the pains of grief, its very difficult to see if we will ever enjoy life again.

In time, our grieving will start to ease to ease and our life will slowly begin to become more bearable.

Losing a loved one can be very painful to deal with, a sound, asmell or even a song on the radio, can bring back memories.

How can hypnotherapy help with the grieving process.

No one can replace a loved one.

Hypnotherapy can help you move away from your grief.

Hypnotherapy for grief and bereavement is not about forgetting a loved one, it's about helping you to release the negative and sometimes very painful emotions that we associate with our memories.

Hypnosiscan help you feel free, to remember the memories you want, without all the negative emotions that can cause you pain.

WHAT IS NORMAL GRIEF

The more typical feelings someone may encounter after a bereavement, can include:

  • Distured sleep
  • Loss of appetite
  • crying
  • weight loss
  • Anger
  • Sadness
  • Feelings of guilt
  • Preoccupation with the person lost.
  • Hearing their voice and sometimes seeing the person.

The initial symptoms and the disturbances wiil gradually become less as over time you now begin to accept the loss.

The reaction we have to grief can vary and usually lasts around 6 months, but in some cases can in last years.

WHAT IS ABNORMAL GRIEF

Abnormal grief usually ocurs when grief has been very intense, prolonged or when the reaction to grief is delayed.

This reaction is somehow different, the symptoms you experience are out of the normal range this can include:

  • Excessive feelings of guilt.
  • A slowing down of thoughs and movement
  • Feelnig worthless.
  • A belief that these unwanted feeling will never go
  • A prolonged feeling of not being able to function.

Hypnotherapy can help you to move forward through the bereavement, loss and grief, helping you to now remember the loved one without all the negative feelings of: grief, guilt, anger helping you to remember the happy good times.

When it comes to learning to live with our loss and to moving on there are five stages of grief that we usually need to move through. It's healthy and good for us to pass through them all. Grief is individual to all of us. There is no such thing as a typical grieving process as it's different for us all. You may find you take one step forward then two steps back, this is all part of the grieving process. It will get easier.

One of the hardest things to do is to be able to let go of someone we love, or to even allow yourself to let go.

THE FIVE STAGES OF GRIEF

ANGER

Why me ? Feeling of anger towards the deceased person for leaving you, and wanting to fight back. Anger is a very important emotion and by feeling angry and then releasing the anger instead of holding it in, can help us to move on.

DENIAL

Denial that this is happening to me. Acting as though your loved one is still living, looking for them in familiar places. There may be very little or even no crying unable to accept or even acknowledge the loss of the loved one. This can be normal reaction as it allows you to get through each day and you only need to handle what is neccessary et that particular time.

BARGANING

Trying to make deals with god to change or even stop the loss, Praying for them to come back even begging and wishing for them to come back. We may find ourselve getting lost in this perpetual circle of "if only" or "what if".

DEPRESSION

After the barganing stages we come more towards the present. We can begin to experience feelings sometimes they can become overwhelming feeling of self pity, bitterness, frustration, hopelessness, mourning for the loss of the loved one. As well as feeling all our dreams hopes and plan for the future have suddenly gone. This can leave us feeling empty with no control of what is happening.

ACCECPTANCE

There is a difference between acceptant and resignation. We can start to set new goals look more to the future as we now realise that life must go on. We may still have thoughts of our loved ones, but these thoughts now become less frequent and tense with every day that passes. You start to get more energy and motivation now begins to increase as you start to look foward to your future again. This may take time but eventually it will happen
